Nestled in the scenic Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg boasts a rich German heritage. In the mid-1800s, thousands of German immigrants settled in Central Texas, founding towns with names like Gruene, Boerne, New Braunfels, and, of course, Fredericksburg. Established in 1846 and named after Prince Frederick of Prussia, the town was affectionately called "Fritztown" by early German settlers—a nickname that still lives on in some local businesses.

Admiral Nimitz Museum in Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg is home to the renowned National Museum of the Pacific War, located here in honor of Fleet Admiral Chester Nimitz, a hometown hero who commanded the U.S. Pacific Fleet during World War II. Born in Fredericksburg on February 24, 1885, Admiral Nimitz is remembered as one of America’s great military leaders. The museum, housed in the historic Nimitz Hotel building, is widely regarded as one of the finest institutions dedicated to the Pacific Theater of WWII.

Shops along main street

Fredericksburg’s Main Street is a shopper’s paradise, lined with more than 100 unique stores offering everything from handcrafted art and antiques to specialty gifts, clothing, jewelry, and curiosities you didn’t know you needed. Wander through charming side streets, discover a hand-poured candle, test out a dulcimer, or sample the locally famous Fredericksburg fudge. Don’t miss the authentic German bakery—or a hearty lunch at one of the many cozy German restaurants.

Whether you're a casual browser or a serious collector, Fredericksburg offers an unforgettable shopping experience that blends small-town charm with big-time variety.
