The Verandas Guest House Bed and Breakfast Inn

Mary and Wayne Brown, owners/innkeepers, spent two years meticulously restoring this magnificent, historic home.  All of their attention to detail makes this a delightful place for that special weekend getaway.

The original limestone structure was built in 1856 as a stagecoach stop when Burnet was in its infancy.  Then it became the Calvert house, a hotel, and the home of the Galloway family.  The Browns are proud to come full circle and once again offer travelers a welcome respite as The Verandas Guest House.

View of the Pond

A restored hand-dug well on the veranda once quenched the thirst of horses and travelers.  Today the well supplies water for the water garden and Koi pond.  A rusty revolver was found buried in the ground while doing landscaping around the pond.

Photo of the Bridge

Wayne was delighted to see his plans for a Monét style bridge come to life with the help of a local craftsman.  The bridge is a popular spot for taking photographs.   Selecting each stone bordering the edge of the pond was done by Wayne personally, from stones on their ranch.

Guests enjoy a pleasant stroll around the Koi pond and seeing all of the different kinds of plants and foliage.  The artful combination of a peaceful pond and lush landscaping adds to the serenity.

These marvelous gardens have been chosen to be included in the "Heart of Texas Wildlife Trail" by the Texas Park & Wildlife and Texas Department of Transportation.  Our gardens were selected because of our unique water garden and the use of native Texas plants in the wonderful flower and herb gardens which attract many species of birds and butterflies.

Our gardens have also become popular as the perfect setting for intimate garden weddings and provide the perfect background for photos.  Many people wish to be photographed by the Monet style bridge, the French painted windows, and our wisteria-covered arbor above the outdoor corner fireplace.
