Canyon Lake

Canyon Lake, Texas, weather forecast

Canyon Lake is a premier recreational destination located in Comal County, Texas, along the Guadalupe River. Covering approximately 8,230 surface acres with 80 miles of scenic shoreline, the lake is situated midway between San Antonio and Austin—just 14 miles northwest of New Braunfels via FM 306 from Interstate 35. Known as one of the deepest lakes in Texas, with an average depth of 43 feet, Canyon Lake offers exceptional fishing opportunities, particularly for Largemouth Bass, Catfish, and both White and Striped Bass. The lake was initially stocked in the 1970s and continues to support a thriving fish population.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers manages eight public parks around the lake, providing a variety of recreational amenities. Cranes Mill Park and Comal Park are located on the southern shoreline, while Potters Creek Park, Canyon Park, Jacobs Creek Park, North Park, Overlook Park, and Guadalupe Park are situated on the northern side. These parks feature well-maintained facilities including campgrounds, picnic areas, boat ramps, and RV accommodations, making Canyon Lake a versatile destination for outdoor enthusiasts.

In addition to lake activities, the nearby Guadalupe River—accessible just below Canyon Dam off FM 306—offers outstanding tubing experiences. Several professional outfitters operate along the highway, offering rentals and shuttle services for a safe and enjoyable river adventure.
