Somerville, Texas, weather forecast

Lake Somerville, nestled in the heart of Central Texas, is a fantastic spot for anyone who loves spending time on the water. This U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir is located about 10 miles northwest of Brenham, with the town of Somerville (population around 1,312 in 2020) being its closest neighbor. It stretches across parts of Burleson, Washington, and Lee counties, offering a peaceful and spacious getaway from the bigger cities.

When it comes to water sports, Lake Somerville has a ton to offer! With over 11,000 acres, there's plenty of room for all kinds of fun. Boating is huge here – you'll see everything from powerboats pulling waterskiers, wakeboarders, and tubers, to folks just cruising around enjoying the scenery. If you prefer a quieter paddle, kayaking, canoeing, and stand-up paddleboarding are also super popular. The lake's calm waters and numerous coves are perfect for exploring at your own pace.

Fishing is another major highlight at Lake Somerville, and it's a well-known secret among Texas anglers. The lake is especially famous for its white bass, which offer some incredible action during their spring spawning runs. But you can also catch some seriously big largemouth bass here – we're talking over 10 pounds! Plus, there are plenty of hybrid striped bass, channel catfish, and crappie to target. Whether you're fishing from your boat or casting from one of the many accessible shorelines, you're likely to have a productive day.

Beyond the thrills of the open water, Lake Somerville offers a complete outdoor experience. The Lake Somerville State Park & Trailway, split into the Birch Creek and Nails Creek units, provides great access to the lake. You can find places to swim at designated areas (though no lifeguards, so swim at your own risk!), and there are full-service marinas ready to help with boat rentals, supplies, and everything else you need for a fantastic day on the water. It’s truly a gem for anyone looking to enjoy the best of Texas water recreation.
